Functional Medicine (FM) is a science-based, investigative, and diagnostic discipline that seeks to determine the root causes of illness and treat the whole body, the whole patient, accordingly. Because every person has a unique biochemistry, diet, and genetic makeup, FM is patient-centered, not disease-centered. And, because it's looking directly at the causes, it goes beyond treating symptoms to addressing what’s actually causing them. Conventional (allopathic) medicine groups clusters of symptoms into boxes labeled "disease," then treats the symptoms with powerful pharmaceuticals, which often have dangerous long-term side-effects and cross-reactions rarely known to patients and even many physicians. However, functional medicine seeks to bring the body back into balance through the use of dietary and lifestyle changes, nutraceuticals, supplements, and, occasionally, short-term prescribed medications.
If you have a health issue(s) that conventional medicine has failed to adequately resolve, functional medicine may be the answer. Long Covid, bowel dysbiosis, bloating, frequent diarrhea, abdominal pain, auto-immune disorders, fatigue, foggy brain, pain, muscle weakness, MS, depression, dementia, mental disorders, environmental illness, and many other issues for which conventional medicine has only dangerous drugs or no answer at all have been resolved or greatly improved through functional medicine.
